Clinic owner, Lisa Capitelli specialises in both Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Remedial and Sports  Therapy.  During her training for Manual Lymphatic Drainage, she has had the privilege in studying both Dr Vodder and Casley-Smith techniques and is certified and insured to offer both.

Manual Lymphatic Therapy is also known as MLD.  This massage uses specific techniques which mobilise the skin and stimulate the lymphatic system.  It facilitates lymph flow into the venous circulation utilising lymph vessels.   Used in conjunction with Deep Oscillation Therapy (D.O.T) to gets the best results.  To find out more about D.O.T, click here.

During the initial consultation, we will discuss what treatment you are already receiving if any from the NHS, what you want to achieve, what can be achieved an, treatment using Deep Oscillation (as long as there are no contra-indications) and then you will be measured for compression garments if required.  Multi-layer bandaging can also be used in the intensive phase of treatment.  It is used to provide compression and support to the underlying tissues.  The use of foam under the bandages helps increase fluid movement and reduces slippage of bandages.  Bandages are prescribed by the doctor and is usually performed every day for a minimum of two weeks.

Lisa also advises on simple exercises which can be done at home as this will increase lymph circulation which is vital in keeping your lymph moving along with dietary advise and body brushing.   You will be advised on Skin Care which is essential in maintaining skin integrity and reduces the risk of infection.  This will involve the use of emollients, body brushing, monitoring for cuts and abrasions and prompt action at the first sign of infection.
Weight control/Maintanence also is important to maintain a healthy weight as  Lympheodema/Lipoedema can be exacerbated by being overweight as fat cells compress the lymphatic, reducing and impeding lymphatic flow.  To aid the discomfort and help with moving the fluid, if required, you  will be measured for compression garments whether it is off the shelf prescription ones of custom fit.  During the maintanence phase, containment of your leg of arm is achieved through daily wearing of these garments.

Best known for reducing the effects of lymphoedema, MLD has also been useful in healing ulcers, reducing bloating and swelling from different causes (i.e. post surgery), and in any situation where the fluid balance of the body has been affected.

She is a member of MLDUK which was formed in 1994 to educate healthcare professionals and the general public about the benefits of M
anual Lymph Drainage (MLD).  This registered organiasation compiled an official register of qualified MLD therapists who are trained, insured and up-to-date in their practice.

Lisa also studied and is a registered member of the SMTO (Scottish Massage Therapy Organisations).  Skills such as Kinesio Taping, Soft Tissue Release, Mobilisation, and Trigger Point Therapy are all tools which she brings to each and every treatment.  She treats all kinds of people who are sedentary in the job to those athletes training for a marathon.   If you suffer from restricted mobility, tight muscles, tendon pain or even recovering from a fracture, then a Remedial and Sports Massage is for you.
